Wow, what a weekend! I just got back from the South Beach Wine and Food Festival where we cooked at 4 events in just four days.
I’ve been appearing at the festival since its first years, six or seven now, and it just keeps getting better and better. Â In addition to my usual demonstrations at Jungle Island and the main stage on the beach, I hosted a really hot party at the Raleigh with Miami Magazine and cooked up a storm at the Best of the Best event at the new Fontainbleau Hotel. Â Take a look at this shot from the Miami Magazine party serving my seafood paella.
It really is fun to see so many of you out there and then to be able to kick back and swap stories with so many of this country’s great culinary personalities like Masaharu Morimoto, Mario Batali, Paula Deen and Nate Appleman. Â If you get the chance, I encourage you to come on down next February and say hello…I’ll be there!
Cheers,
Tyler

Hi everyone-
Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are lucky enough to have what I consider to be one of the greatest food cultures anywhere in the United States. And as far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing more representative of the area’s love of food than the Ferry Building in San Francisco.
From supremely fresh local oysters at Hog Island Oyster Company to beautiful organic meats at Golden Gate Meats and Chris Cosentino’s hand sliced salumis to the weekly farmer’s markets, there’s no shortage of foodie wonders at the Ferry Building on any given day. And as so much of our local fare is seasonal, you’ll always find something new and exciting at the markets and restaurants as the seasons change. You’ll only find the freshest here.

Tyler
Hi everyone-
Like a lot of you out there, I appreciate a great glass of wine with dinner…and on any number of occasions for that matter. So, when I moved to Northern California, just down the road from Napa and Sonoma, I decided it was time to try my hand at winemaking.
For the past year, I’ve been buying grapes and turning tackling the winemaking process full force with the help of my winemaker, Kian Tavakoli, at Crushpad in San Francisco. It’s what I like to call ‘weekend warrior winemaking’ in that they facilitate the whole process for me by helping me source the fruit and then guiding me through the process. But that’s not to say it’s any less of an experience. I’m still identifying my fruit, calling the shots on the process and blending to my own personal style. The beauty in it is I can buy fruit from anywhere, of any varietal, and make it my own…I’m not limited to just what I can grow on my own plot of land.
I can’t tell you how excited I am about the results. So far, I’ve bottled two vintages of Zinfandel, an ‘06 and an ‘07 from the renowned Zinfandel-producing Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma and an ‘07 Pinot Noir from Split Rock Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. The process alone was rewarding both in what I learned about wine and the fun in getting my hands dirty with Kian and the winery. But the real proof is in the pudding and if I do say so myself, these wines are all outstanding.
Check out our website’s store and order a bottle or two!

Hi everyone-
Every morning, I love to start my day with some great coffee, be it an espresso that I pull at home or a double machiatto from my favorite coffee shop, Peet’s. It’s just such a great way to get going in the morning and my coffee, like many of you out there, has become my morning must have.
Well, I guess I’ve made quite a habit of it as when I was down at Peet’s in Mill Valley the other day, they asked me if I had any interest in visiting their roastery in Oakland to experience a ‘cupping’ and learn from their master roasters about what goes into their premium coffees. I took them up on the offer and I’ll tell you, it was an amazing experience.
Peet’s is a local Northern California company that has come to define the premium coffee experience to a lot of people. We tasted a lot of different beans from all over the world at various stages of roasting to see how the flavors develop over the roasting period. The care that goes into selecting and sourcing the beans from the hundreds of small farms around the world to find those that meet the Peet’s standard is really astounding.

Cheers,
Tyler
